I do agree that season 6 being cut short made it feel more rushed. I also didn't love Daisy's plotline although I do think it's parallel to politics today because our current press secretary Jen Psaki is also planning on leaving in like a year due to how demanding the job is. I also didn't like how Jay Whitman and Matt (her speechwriter) weren't in most of the episodes. The thing I loved about season 6 was the election flashbacks, at least I really enjoyed them! I thought it was a cool way to incorporate her road to the presidency without making the whole season about that. In my second rewatch I totally forgot how icy of a relationship Rusell and Elizabeth had and he really does act as an antagonist in the first season. I still very much enjoyed the first season though! I also am glad I am not the only one confused about why Marsh was killed, I think the mystery started out strong but so much happened that it muddled the plot. I agree with you that Madam Secretary was still a very enjoyable show after season 1 whereas imo Designated Survivor was weakened without the mystery plotline. I mentioned the exact thought about Madam Secretary and Designated Survivor's First Season having a mystery and then the rest of the seasons being about other things.
